Brush Techniques: Encyclopedia Britannica, 1947, 400 feet, reddish color, good condition (some lines at times).
Eliot O’Hara, who was a famous artist in the middle part of the 20th century, demonstrates some of the finer points of painting with watercolors in this film. He demonstrates several techniques while painting a scene of the countryside which includes a shed, some trees, an automobile, and some telephone lines. O’Hara makes it look so easy! He gives an excellent demonstration in the difference between painting trees with leaves and without leaves. The film also shows how to use different types of brushes for different effects and how to arrange the bristles of a brush to increase the number of effects a brush is capable of creating. The fact this film is 60 years old shows up in some of the narration. One quote still has me scratching my head…”what you paint will be original, if you have any strength of character”. The early part of the film also shows some examples of paintings, presumably done by other artists of that era.
